Extra Curricular Activities


The Cultural Council of the Department has the following societies in which students can participate.

Dramatics Society

The Dramatics Society has been very active since its inception five years ago. Theatre workshops under the guidance of qualified theatre professionals from the National School of Drama, Delhi are conducted and an annual production is presented in the third term.

In 2006, a Hindi translation of Historia de una escalera (Story of a Staircase / Seediyon Par), a play written in 1949 by Spanish playwright Antonio Buero Vallejo, was performed. In 2007, the students of Portuguese performed a Hindi adaptation of Conto da ilha desconhecida (The Story of an Unknown Island / Ek Anjaan Dweep ki Kahani), a story by the Portuguese writer José Saramago who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1998.


In 2005, a Hindi adaptation of Les Fourberies de Scapin, a comedy by the French playwright Moliere, was performed. The play was staged four times in several parts of Delhi including the JNU and Alliance Française.

In 2004 the Dramatics Society took their anti-war play Kya jhoote the wey geet, a free translation of the Argentine playwright Osvaldo Dragún’s work, to the World Social Forum at Mumbai and also performed it in Delhi.

Literary Society

The Literary Society of the Department provides an opportunity for students to organise quiz, elocution and debating competitions. It also runs a wall magazine where students can give expression to their creativity
