Aims and Objectives

French, German, Italian and Spanish are offered as Discipline Course II in a few select colleges of the University of Delhi (cf. List of colleges below).They have the following objectives:

  1. Acquisition Acquisition of the four basic skills: written and oral comprehension; written and oral expression.

  2. Promoting the study of society and culture of the countries where this language is spoken.

  3. The course aims to attain Level B 1 partially (Threshold Level) of the CECR. The courses would thus equip students.

  1. to continue studies in the foreign language at the postgraduate level.

  2. to enter professional life (in translation, tourism, the service industry or the corporate world) where knowledge of a foreign language is necessary or considered an advantage.

French, German and Spanish are presently offered as Discipline Courses-II in the following colleges:

Jesus & Mary College - French and Spanish
Delhi College of Arts and Commerce – German and Spanish
Gargi College – German
Vivekanad College – French
Ramanujam College – French

SCHEME OF EXAMINATION

SEMESTER 3

Paper 1 Introduction to Language (1) 100
• 50 (for oral and 25 (for written).
• 25 marks for Internal assessment. (15 for presentation and 10 for test)

SEMESTER 4

Paper II: Introduction to Language (2) 100
• 50 (for written) and 25 (for Oral).
• 25 marks for Internal assessment (15 for presentation and 10 for test)

SEMESTER 5

Paper III: Study of Language (1) 100
• Introduction of texts of different genres.
• Written Expression 50 and Oral Expression 25

SEMESTER 6

Paper IV: Study of Language (2) 100
• Continuation of texts of different genres.
• Written Expression 50 and Oral Expression 25

SEMESTER 7

Paper V: Advanced Study of Language (1) 100
" Written Expression 50 and Oral Expression 25

SEMESTER 8

Paper VI: Advanced Study of Language (2) 100
Written Expression 50 and Oral Expression 25
