University Teaching Assistantship Scheme for encouraging doctoral (Ph.D.) research
Applications are invited for the University Teaching Assistantship Scheme (UTA Scheme), for the year 2009.

Eligibility Criteria Candidates (general and reserved categories) who have obtained their Master’s degree in the current year (2009) and the previous year (2008) and have scored more than 55% marks in the Post-Graduate as well as Under-Graduate examinations will be eligible. Only those candidates who are in the top 30% of the successful candidates of each academic session will be eligible to be considered for the UTA Scheme. (In Departments where the total no. of students is 10 to 12 only, all candidates having secured 60% marks both in graduation and post-graduation will be eligible to be considered for the UTA Scheme.).
Period of Assistantship The University Teaching Assistantship will be for four years, and may be renewed annually after a performance review and recommendations by Departmental Research Committee.
Value of Assistantship A Teaching Assistant would draw Rs.25,000/- per month and a contingency of Rs.10,000/- in the case of candidates who do not have any fellowship. In the case of candidates with a UGC or other fellowship, the Teaching Assistant will be allowed to draw the difference in such a way that the total value is Rs.25,000/-.
Responsibilities 1. Teaching Assistants selected under this Scheme will be required to undertake Practical/ Tutorials/ Internship/ Supervision for checking assignments (six hours per week) along with their research work. 2. Selected candidates will have to register themselves for Ph.D. in case they are not already registered.
Termination The University reserves the right to terminate the Assistantship without any notice on unsatisfactory report of the research work/ teaching duties carried out by the candidate.
No. of Assistantships Maximum of five Assistantships for small Departments and Ten Assistantships in those Departments where more than 200 students are admitted per year per Department.
Reservation Candidates from reserved categories irrespective of being/not-being in top 30% of the successful candidates of each academic session will be eligible to be considered provided they have secured 55% marks in the Post- Graduate and Under-Graduate examinations.
